We've added a grabber between the diff and the file list in the check in window, so you should be able to just shrink the diff down until it isn't visible in beta6. The reason the diff is there is so that you can review the changes you made to your code (or other diffable file) before you check it in. Only doing binary files, it's probably not useful or even obvious why it's there  But it's super handy for non-binary files.
Right now it'll try to diff whatever you click on, text or binary. We'll need to add a way to figure out if it's a text file or not and not try to diff binary files any more too.
